¿Necesitas un poco de ayuda financiera debido a la pandemia de COVID-19? Por suerte, muchas instituciones financieras están tomando medidas que pueden aliviar un poco su estrés.

Last week a record 3.3 million Americans filed for unemployment insurance. That means that millions have been temporarily or permanently laid off due to business closures from the pandemic. But even if you’ve applied for and have been approved for unemployment insurance you are still not going to bring in the money you usually do to cover your bills. If this is something you are facing many financial institutions are offering a little help to get over the hump.

Banks

Major banks and credit card companies have created some policies for those most affected by COVID-19 by deferring payments, waiving fees and more. Banks like Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi and more are offering customers a variety of different options for the next couple of months. Consult with your specific bank to learn more.

Credit Card Companies

Major credit card companies offer their usual hardship programs to customers affected by COVID-19. In most cases you need to apply for the program and can do so over the phone or on the company’s website. Some companies will offer to waive fees, change payments dates or lower the amount due.

Taxes

The IRS has changed the usual April tax day to July 15 this year with many states following suit. This takes a little off your plate for the time being while you deal with more imminent issues. But don’t put it off too long - you may forget since the date is so much farther outside its traditional due date.

Federal student loan borrowers are allowed to suspend payments for 60 days in response to the pandemic. Don’t just stop making payments though! You have to make a request through your loan provider. There are a number options for you other than simply not making payments for 2 months.

Many private lenders are also offering some help but their offerings are varied. Your best bet is to get in touch with each individual provider. Don’t assume anything before contacting, you don’t want to accidentally stop paying a loan that has not been deferred.
